Trauma-Sensitive Yoga: Understanding Trauma’s Full-Spectrum Impact and How to Relieve Symptoms Naturally with Alana Greenberg, June 3 – 4, 2017
Growing evidence shows that the imprints of traumatic events remain lodged in the body and brain, and that somatic awareness practices are essential for trauma recovery. Modern findings in neuroscience support these notions and have paved the way for yoga and meditation to find their rightful place as bona fide adjunctive therapies in treating traumatic stress. This workshop helps reframe the negative effects of trauma into an opportunity to yoke with ourselves. As we unpack the pranic implications of holding trauma in the body, we will discover that the unwinding or thawing of this “frozen potential” allows greater possibilities for stability, healing and vitality to emerge. We will cover: The neurological and physiological implications of trauma Asana, pranayama and meditation techniques that recalibrate the nervous system The power of imagery, affirmation and guided relaxation techniques Establishing a safe container within for transformational shifts to occur Self-care – supporting ourselves through a nourishing daily regimen to strengthen psychic immunity and personal boundaries The spirit of resilience This work will offer tools to help us “come home” to ourselves in a way that fosters self-listening, establishes safety, and enlivens the muscle of trust.
